VFW DEPARTMENT OF GEORGIA COVID-19 EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Charles “Tony” Dobbins Department of Georgia Adjutant - 6/1/2020

SITUATION

There are Georgia VFW Posts that are in danger of losing their Post Home due to the cancelation of bingo by the GBI and the Governor's closure of canteens. In some cases these activities are the only revenue streams for these VFW Posts.

OBJECTIVE

Provide  financial  assistance to Georgia VFW Posts that have Post Homes in danger so they may keep their property, weather this unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, and continue to assist and support fellow veterans.

WHAT IS AVAILABLE?

Up to $3,000 emergency relief from the VFW Department of Georgia.

WHO CAN APPLY?

Posts with a Post Home wholly and independently owned by the VFW Post. Property owned by other
organizations, veterans or otherwise, are not eligible.

Posts with a financial need who have exhausted all or most of their owned resources. Posts are
expected to use their savings and or Certificates of Deposit before applying for these funds.

HOW TO APPLY

Complete an audit of the Post accounts (just like the quarterly audit form). It must be accurate
within 10 days before submission. Must be signed by the Commander, Quartermaster  and at least one
Trustee.

Post must supply a copy of the latest bank statements (or other account statements)  for all
accounts along with the audit form.

The review committee will review the Post's audits for the last year in evaluating the application.

This is COVID-19 emergency relief from the Department of Georgia given as comrades helping
comrades. It is hoped that, given the Post's good fortune in the future, the Post may donate back
to the Department so that other Posts
may benefit in the future.
